The immeasurable sense of peace that we feel around water is magical. Solitude is sometimes a good cure. When Heike Ahrends decided to take on a journey to Akureyri, Iceland, it was a long-needed escape for her. She was experiencing a phase in her life, where she must disconnect, rejuvenate, explore and rebuild her soul. The drawing series — WATER - AT IN ON BESIDE THROUGH was created under such a state.

Each artwork in this series contains multiple layers, carrying her feelings and interpretations of that time and space. Ahrends may never revisit those mountains, waterfalls, glaciers and large panoramas, but her deepest emotions are flowing through the waters on her stone papers. Having been exhibited once in Akureyi Art Museum, Iceland, the WATER series will come to Jersey City in February 2023 and will be shown exclusively at IMUR Gallery until March.
